LG Manoj Sinha calls for ‘zero tolerance’ against drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has directed authorities to adopt a strict “zero tolerance” policy against the growing drug menace in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Bhavan, the Lieutenant Governor met Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and senior civil and police officials to assess ongoing efforts and outline a comprehensive anti-drug strategy.

Emphasising the urgency of the issue, Sinha called for a multi-pronged approach combining strong law enforcement, public awareness, and rehabilitation measures. He stressed the need to dismantle drug trafficking networks through intensified enforcement, while simultaneously launching mass awareness campaigns to discourage substance abuse, particularly among youth.

“Action against drug abuse must be our top priority. We need a collective mechanism to safeguard our youth and ensure a healthy future for Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. The Lieutenant Governor also directed officials to strengthen grassroots intelligence systems and ensure coordinated, stringent action against drug smugglers.

The meeting reviewed preparations for a dedicated three-month campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Sinha urged senior officials to lead the initiative from the front and ensure participation from all sections of society, transforming the campaign into a mass movement.

Among those present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary (Home) Chandraker Bharti, and other senior officials, including divisional commissioners, IGPs, DIGs, SSPs, and Deputy Commissioners.
