Temporary structure at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium collapses, 8 injured

Stage collapses at Delhi's JLN Stadium

A canopy-like structure near Gate number 2 of Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium collapsed on Saturday (Feb 17), injuring over eight people, confirmedthe police.

A video captured at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium showed police officers present at the location.

Rescue operations are being carried on by Delhi Police and fire department officials.

What exactly happened?

The canopy collapsed at approximately 11am, with an estimated 10-12 individuals suspected to be trapped, said theDelhi police, as reported by ANI.They were subsequently rescued and transported to AIIMS Trauma Hospital for medical treatment.

“As of now, no causality has been reported. Police, Fire and Ambulance are there on the spot for other rescue efforts,” the police further said.

A security guard working at the stadium told ANI that the incident happened when the labourers were on lunch. “There has not been a heavy impact," he said.

"10-12 people who have suffered injuries have been shifted to hospital. Rescue operation is underway,” Asif Ansari, a Medical Technician-Emergency services of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital was quoted as saying by ANI.
