I felt alone in Congress while fighting for my self-respect: Priyanka Chaturvedi
Ex-Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi who joined Shiv Sena on Thursday told Zee News that it was not just one incident but a series of incidents which affected her family resulting in her ultimate decision to leave the party.
Priyanka Chaturvedi said the reinductionof Congress workers into the party who misbehaved with herdeeply hurt her self-respect which led her to leave the party and "start again" from the place where she began her political journey in 2008.
"I started my political career in 2008 because the 26/11 attacks changed my outlook towards Mumbai. I quit my job to serve the people, but the focus got lost in all these years," Priyanka Chaturvedi said, adding,"I have quit a national-level political party and thought process to join a political party which has worked for Maharashtra, formed governments here and behaved responsibly."
When asked about Congress party president Rahul Gandhi's reaction after she decided to quit, the former Congress spokesperson said she felt alone in her fight.
"An organisation doesn't depend on one person, it moves forward with the coming together of people with similar ideologies. Whatever happened in Mathura, was condemnable and the culprits were suspended. But I was disappointed when their suspension was revoked."
"I also brought the issue to the notice of the party, but the expected decision was not taken. So I made up my mind that my fight for women should continue, and ensure that women are not silenced."
She said her fight will continue with clear goals aimed at women, youth and child welfare.
"I joined Congress without any expectation, and to serve people. I had a clear goal that I will work for women, youth and children. And I plan to continue my fight now as a Shiv Sena member," she said while laying out her plans for the new party.
"Together, we will work towards bringing change in Mumbai, Maharashtra and the entire country," she said.
