Shahid Kapoor on Monday categorically stated people should not be judging Padmavati without watching the film. The actor walked the red carpet at the opening ceremony of IFFI 2017 in Goa and spoke to media about the controversy around Padmavati.
"Our constitution says that you are innocent until proven guilty. Same should be extended to Padmavati, it should not be considered guilty even before it is provided for people to judge it," the actor said.
Shahid said stopping the release of the film would set a precedent which he would not be "proud" of, adding that he had to suffer a similar ordeal with his earlier film Udta Punjab.
"It will be a precedent which I am not proud of if the film finds it difficult to release... I went through a similar process in Udta Punjab," Kapoor told reporters at IFFI.
"I don't think there is anything in the film that is unacceptable or that is not in good taste. Eventually, Padmavati will come out and in full force," the actor added.
Censor board chief Prasoon Joshi stated that the matter had to be resolved by dialogue and not by arguing over it. "We are trying to follow processes. Instead of arguments, attempts are being made to have a dialogue on the issue."
The board, on Saturday, sent back the film without certifyingit citing the makers had not completed documentation process properly.
