In a shocking incident, a woman in Odisha delivered a baby girl in an unused drain after being denied entry in a hospital, reports said on Saturday.

The 30-year-old woman had to resort to giving birth in the hospital's drain after being denied assistance for not having the right documents.

The women had gone to the hospital to visit her ailing husband and started having labour pains and asked the nurse there for a check-up, she was asked to furnish her Mamata Yojana beneficiary card and other documents, which she was not carrying at the time.

The hospital, Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, later admitted the mother after she lay unattended for almost an hour, reports said.

When contacted, Koraput chief district medical officer Lalit Mohan Rath denied the allegations, terming them 'baseless'.
