Delhi is worried as Azadpur Mandi is on its way to be a COVID-19 hotspot

Delhi's biggest market Azadpur Mandi has become the latest concern for the state as a big spike of coronavirus was witnessed in the area.

On Thursday, the area had 15 cases of the novel coronavirus and so far 42 people have been quarantined whereas 45 people have been sampled. Out of the 45, 17 were taken on April 23 and their reports have not come yet.

The Mandi is being sanitised. The chairman of the market Adil Ahmed Khan has said that social distancing is in practice in the Mandi. Health officials suspect there might be more cases.

According to the Traders, the cases are consistently increasing in the market, whereas, their business is also being affected.

Officers have been collecting information about the people who have come in contact with the victims.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday reported that countrywide COVID-19 death toll has reached 1147 while the number of cases climbed to 35043.

According to the available data, the total cases in the country reached 35043, including 8889 cured/discharged/migrated and 1147 deaths. In the past 24 hours, 1993 new cases of coronavirus and 73 deaths were reported.

Through a graded, pre-emptive and pro-active approach, the Government of India is taking several steps along with the states/UTs for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19. These are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level, the ministry said.

The Indian Council of Medical Research has said that a total of 280 government laboratories in the country are conducting tests for Covid-19. ICMR also released a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.
