Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday reported that countrywide COVID-19 death toll has reached 1147 while the number of cases climbed to 35043.

According to the available data, the total cases in the country reached 35043, including 8889 cured/discharged/migrated and 1147 deaths. In the past 24 hours, 1993 new cases of coronavirus and 73 deaths were reported.

The total number of cases in Maharashtra, the worst affected state by Covid-19, has risen to 10,490 with over 450 deaths.

"As per the guidance from Government of India, cluster containment action plan is being implemented in places where clusters of patients have been found in the state," the Maharashtra government said in the daily health bulletin.

"There are 733 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 10,092 surveillance squads worked today across the state and surveillance of 42.11 lakh population was done," it added.

Through a graded, pre-emptive and pro-active approach, the Government of India is taking several steps along with the states/UTs for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19. These are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level, the ministry said.

The Indian Council of Medical Research has said that a total of 280 government laboratories in the country are conducting tests for Covid-19. ICMR also released a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.
