Banaras Hindu University women's protest: Yogi Adityanath says role of anti-social elements

The chief minister of north Indian state, Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanathsaid that people involved in spreading anarchy in the Banaras Hindu University campus will not be spared at any cost. He was speaking about the protests by women scholars against incidents ofmolestation on campus and related police violence that is being widelycriticised.

Yogi Adityanath said these incidents at the university smacked of a "conspiracy" as prima facie reports suggest the role of anti-social elements, said PTI.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Adiyanath said, "The administration has been clearly told not to harass any student, but get to the bottom of this issue, and find details of anti-social elements," reported DNA.

An inquiry has been ordered into the protest and the violent police reprisal that followed.

Meanwhile, the chief proctor of the Banaras Hindu University has resigned last night (Tuesday) taking moral responsibility for the protests.

The district administration has declared holidays till October 2 in all colleges and universities in the district after the spread of violence. The BHU had earlier announced that the holidays would start from September 28.

The molestation case at Banaras Hindu University came to light when women scholars blocked the entrance of the university campus from where Modi's convoy was expected to pass on Friday.

A number of students, including women and two journalists, were injured in the batoncharge, the varsity sources said.

Nearly 1,500 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order in the campus after the violence created unrest among the students.
