Narayan Sai, son of self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu, was found guilty in a rape case by Surat Sessions Court and has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The verdict was pronounced on Tuesday. The rape case was filed against him by a former woman devotee in 2013.

47-year-old Sai is lodged at Lajpore Jail in Surat since 2013. Four of his aides, including two women, were also found guilty of various offences and later held by the court, news agency PTI reported.

Sai was convicted under IPC sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 323 (assault), 506-2 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (conspiracy). As many as 11 people were accused out of which six were acquitted, PTI reported.

Sai was arrested from Delhi-Haryana border in December 2013. Surat Police had filed a 1,100-page charge sheet against Sai in 2014.
