
Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate court today pronounced the death sentence for convict Ameerul Islam in Jisha rape and murder case.
The dalit law student who hailed from Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district in Kerela was found murdered at her home in Kuruppampadi on April 28th, 2016.
The court had said that the charges under Sections 449 (trespass), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) had been proved.
The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court had found Ameerul guilty of violations under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
The case had shaken Kerala last year and had led to large-scale protests with people coming out on the streets.
Jisha's mother had told the media she wanted the "death penalty" for Ameerul.
