After India's capital city, several schools in Ahmedabad receive bomb threats

Days after bomb threats were sent to various schools in India's capital city New Delhi, several schools in Ahmedabad, Gujarat also received bomb threats through e-mails on Monday (May 6).

The police started a swift search operation and nothing suspicious has been found till now in the school premises. The state police and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams were present in the schools and the matter was being investigated.

The bomb threats were sent to schools like Delhi Public School (DPS) and Anand Niketan in Ahmedabad after they called the police control room.

Meanwhile, DCP Control Ahmedabad City said that nobody needs to panic. "No need to panic, exaggerate...5-6schoolshave been threatened through mail about bomb blast...we are checking. No need to give too much hype...people should not panic as tomorrow is poll day," the DCP said.

Delhi-NCR bomb hoax

The incident appeared similar to recent bomb threats which were sent to around 130schools in the Delhi-NCR through e-mails on Wednesday (May 1) and led to swift evacuation of students from campuses.

As per the investigation agencies, the mail which was sent to schools in Delhi-NCR had originated from a server in Russia.

After the emails were sent, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official statement and said that the emails were a "hoax".

"There is no need to panic. The mail appears to be a hoax. Delhi Police and security agencies are taking necessary steps as per protocol," read the official statement from the MHA.

An advisory was also issued by the Delhi government appealing the schools to regularly check their official emails and inform about any impending threat to the authorities.

Meanwhile, in the wake of bomb threats, the preparedness was intensified by the security forces by conducting a series of mock drills across different key locations in the city, which included metro stations, airports, schools and government buildings.
