Over 80 elephants enter village in West Bengal

Over 80 elephants have entered a village in West Bengal.

ANI reported that villagers and forest officials were trying to drive away the pachyderms from Sonakhali in West Midnapore and protect theirpaddy crop.

Man-animal conflict has become a major concern in Bengal and India in recent years.

News reports said 108 people were killed and 95 injured by wild elephants in the state in 2015-16.

Last week, a picture of a baby elephant set on fire had gone viral. The award-winning photograph,again taken in Bengal, was also emblematic of the man-animal conflict in the state.
