Euro 2024: Final minute Watkins goal takes England into final over Netherlands

Ollie Watkins' final-minute goal in the regulation time ensured England beat Netherlands 2-1 in the Euro 2024 semifinal on Wednesday (Jul 10). The Three Lions will now face Spain in the final for European title on July 15.

Cole Palmer set him up with a nice cross and Watkins, in a flash, turned back towards the Dutch goal before sending the ball into the left corner of the goal - leaving all the Dutch fans stunned.

England started the match in the same manner as they had in the previous knockout games - conceding an early goal.

Xavi Simons shot a rocket from outside the box in the top left corner of the English goalpost to give the Dutch 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the game.

England had never won three consecutive knockout games coming from behind but this time they gave themselves a chance. A contested penalty in the 18th minute led their comeback.

England captain Harry Kane tried netting the ball when Dutchman Denzel Dumfries led with his studs to stop the shot. The ball didn't go in but Kane fell on the pitch in pain. A penalty was given eventually which Kane converted into his 66th international goal.

Three minutes later, England almost doubled their lead only for Dumfries again to stop it just on the goal line while himself being behind it.

England played superbly in the first half, almost with a sense of urgency, especially after conceding the goal.

They had a chance to take a lead in the 32nd minute but Foden's shot hit the goalpost - just enough on the outside to miss the inside.

Come the second half, the game was very much a battle of attrition with England failing to find pockets. Netherlands tried their best to go ahead but England's defence kept them at bay.
