Euro 2024: Dutch coach Ronald Koeman 'not happy with offside goal' being disallowed against France

Netherlands and France played out a draw in the ongoing Euro 2024 on Thursday (June 21) but the Dutch coach Ronald Koeman wasn't happy with a goal being disallowed.

The goal in question had happed in second-half, thanks to a strike from Xavi Simons. It was eventually deemed offside and hence disallowed after Denzel Dumfries was seen standing next to French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

"The position of Dumfries is offside, that's true. But he isn't disturbing the goalkeeper. And when that does not happen then it's a legal goal in my opinion," the Dutch coach said during at the post-match presentation.

"Did they need five minutes to check it because it's so difficult? I don't understand this. He's not disturbing the goalkeeper," he added.

The game ended in a goalless draw but the Dutch coach wasn't much bothered about it instead rather satisfied with the result.

"Although I think that the goal should have stood, my takeaway from this is it is a fair result.

"I can accept this, although there were times during the game where we weren't up to scratch and that's probably due to the fact that we were up against a great opponent in France.

"But we have four points from two games and played against the big favourites. I would have signed up for that beforehand. I'm happy, I don't know about you (reporters)," he said.

"Maybe you'll say the Dutch were boring and defensive, and that is allowed. But I had the feeling France were happy to leave the field with a point too."

Netherlands had won their first game against Poland 2-1 and now with a draw against France, they have four points from two games.

Netherlands play their last group game against Austria on June 25. A win or a draw will all but confirm a place for them in Round of 16.
