
Argentina superstar Lionel Messi was seen crying in the Copa America Final 2024 against Columbia on Sunday (Jul 14) after being subbed due to injury.
Messi suffered an injury in the 66th minute of the game and left the field immediately. The World Cup winner was seen crying inconsolably after the substitution. Have a look at the video below:
As for the match, Argentina won it 1-0 in extra time, thanks to a goal by Lautaro Martinez in 112th minute. It was Argentina's 16th Copa America title - the most for any country.
This is also South American nation's third consecutive major title after winning 2021Copa America and FIFA World Cup 2022.
Messi, despite being injured, also entered the record books by winning his 45th trophy - one more than former teammate Dani Alves' tally of 44.
Ahead of the finale, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said he expected a chaos-free summit clash; however, what transpired was far from that. Just before the start, fans created chaos outside the stadium, with the organisers blaming those without tickets for trying to breach the security and enter the stadium.
An inefficient entry system delayed the match start by over an hour; however, the police and organisers managed to control the situation, and the game got underway soon after.
Argentina will now face Euro 2024 winners Spain in Finalissima 2025 - a match between Euro and Copa America winners.
Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 Final on Sunday (Jul 14) in Berlin, Germany to win their record fourth European championship title. Spain are now the first team to have four Euro titles, breaking the tie with Germany which also has three titles.
Spain had previously won the continental championship in 1964, 2008 and 2012. England, on the otherhandlost their second Euro final on the trot after losing to Italy in 2020 on penalties.
