Sukhwinder Singh rejects Ram Gopal Varma's claims on Jai Ho, says 'AR Rahman composed it'

Earlier this week, Indian filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma claimed that the iconic song ''Jai Ho'' is the composition of singer Sukhwinder Singh, not AR Rahman.
''Jai Ho'', which featured inDanny Boyle's 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire,won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
In wake of Ram Gopal Varma's claims, Sukhwinder has himself come forward to say that the song was indeed entirely composed by Rahman.
In an interview with Hindustan Times newspaper, Sukhwinder said the song was composed by Rahman, adding thatVarma might have got wrong information.
"AR Rahman has composed the song, I have only sung it. Ram Gopal Varma ji koi chhoti hasti toh nahi hain, shayad unhe kuchh galat pata chala hoga [Ram Gopal Varma is not a small fry, probably he got the wrong information]," he said.
"Gulzar sahab had written this song, Rahman liked it. Then he composed it in my studio in Juhu, Mumbai. He made Subhash ji listen to it. I had not sung the song till that point of time."
Interestingly, the song was originally composed for Subash Ghai’s Yuvvraaj starring Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif. However, back then, Ghai didn't approve of the song because he wanted something that suited his idea of the movie.

Recalling the meeting when he first sang the song in front of Gulzar, the singer told, "He [Ghai] said the character for whom he wanted a song had become naughty in the story, this song wasn't fitting. He wanted a more masaledaar [spicy]song. He told Rahman, but he insisted that this was nice. I too said 'thode changes kar do' [change it a bit], but Subhash ji said poora gaana hi alag chahiye [want an entirely different song]. Then he left, Rahman left. I was sad.''
The singer went on to say, ''I requested Gulzar sahab to stay back for 10-15 minutes. He asked why, to which I replied he has written it so well, let me try singing. Naachte kudte maine gaa diya [I sang it joyfully]. It was the same Jai Ho you listen to today."
He said he sent it across to Rahman, who in turn made Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire, listen to it.
"Rahman also kept his promise and gave another song to Subhash ji for Yuvvraaj.''
What did Ram Gopal Varma say about the Academy Award-winning song?
Earlier this week, Ram Gopal Varma shockingly claimed that he was surprised after learning that Sukhwinder was the one who made the Oscar-winning song, not Rahman.
In an interview with Film Companion, RGV recalled a meeting when Ghaigot upset with Rahman after he found that he hadn’t composed the song.
Varma claimed that the filmmaker even lashed out at the Grammy-winning composer and said,' 'I am paying you crores of rupees as my music director and you are making Sukhwinder make a tune for me. You have the guts to say that in front of me? If I want Sukhwinder, I’ll sign him, who are you to take my money and make Sukhwinder do the music for me?'”
