Sikkimese director Samten Bhutia's Tara: The Lost Star to be screened at Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes International Film Festival is about to begin. This year, a Sikkimese feature film Tara: The Lost Star from Sikkimese Director Samten Bhutia has been selected for market screening (Marche du Film) at the prestigious film festival.
Directed by Bhutia, the movie is in the Nepali language and starslocal artistsShyama Shree Sherpa and Kiran Dahal, alongside Deoraj Sherpa, Loonibha Tuladhar, Shashikala Pradhan, Sushmita Bhujel, Basant Sharma, Anand Gurung, and Timothy Rai.
The movie is bankrolled by Sabitri Chettri, under the banner of SaDa Productions in association with Passang Mintok Films.
Elaborating more on the movie, the filmmakers told PTI, ''With its compelling narrative, 'Tara: The Lost Star' is a feature film in Nepali Language which offers a window into the beliefs of Himalayas and Sikkim's vibrant culture. It is a social drama film, starring local artists Shyama Shree Sherpa and Kiran Dahal, with the primary cast being Deoraj Sherpa, Loonibha Tuladhar, Shashikala Pradhan, Sushmita Bhujel, Basant Sharma, Anand Gurung and Timothy Rai."

Speaking further, the makers said that the movie's screening at Cannes marks a significant milestone forregional cinema.
"This achievement celebrates the talent and perseverance of the talent from the Himalayas. As the excitement builds for its Cannes debut, 'Tara: The Lost Star' promises to shine a spotlight on Sikkim's burgeoning film industry like never before," they said.

This year, Payal Kapadia's debut feature film All We Imagine As Light is competing for the festival's highest honour - Palme d'Or.
All We Imagine As Light is the first Indian film in the competition section at Cannes in three decades.
Cannes Film Festival 2024 will be held from May 14 to 25.
