Sean Penn is firmly denying assault allegations! In a recent interview, he said that he never struck his ex-wife Madonna with a baseball bat during their tumultuous four-year marriage.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the actor recounted a harrowing incident when a SWAT team descended upon his home. "I had a freaking SWAT team come into my house," Penn said, explaining that Madonna had expressed concerns about guns in the house to the police. "I said: ‘I’m not coming out. I’m going to finish my breakfast.’ The next thing I knew, windows were being broken all around the house and they came in. They had me in handcuffs."
Despite their rocky relationship and subsequent divorce, Penn, now 63, still speaks fondly of Madonna. “She’s someone I love,” he shared. Reflecting on the differences between his divorces, he noted that repairing a friendship post-divorce is often easier without children involved.
"It took [ex-wife Robin Wright] and I quite a while. There was a lot of drama. Much more important to repair it if there are kids involved, but no easy swing, right?" said Penn.

Penn and Madonna, 65, were married from 1985 to 1989. The “Like a Virgin” singer initially filed for divorce in 1987, only to withdraw the papers before filing again two years later. During both instances, rumours swirled that Penn had not only physically assaulted Madonna, including beating her with a baseball bat, but also tied her to a chair for hours.
Madonna, however, has publicly refuted these claims. In a 2015 statement, she clarified, “While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, ‘tied me up,’ or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false.”
With three ex-wives and having finalised his divorce from Leila George in April 2022, Penn is content with his current romantic status. He expressed to The Times that he is “thrilled every day” to no longer be in a serious relationship. “I’m just free,” he said. “If I’m going to be in a relationship, I’m still going to be free, or I’m not going to be in it, and I’m not going to be hurting. I don’t sense I’ll have my heart broken by romance again.”
