Britain's royals Prince William and wife Kate Middleton are scheduled to arrive in Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad on Monday evening as part of their first royal tour to the country in more than a decade.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be given a red carpet welcome. They will be in the country on a five-day visit that will be held under special security arrangements that is currently being supervised by the military.

In an official statement, Kensington Palace said, "This is the most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations.”

"Whilst The Duke and Duchess's programme will pay respect to the historical relationship between Britain and Pakistan, it will largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as it is today - a dynamic, aspirational and forward-looking nation. The tour will take in Pakistan's rich culture, its diverse communities, and its beautiful landscapes,” read the statement.

In an earlier interview, Kate revealed that they are looking forward to trying out different dishes in the country. She said that she often cooks a special curry at home, and typically makes a mild version for their kids; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and a spicier one for her and William.

The royal couple will be meeting with the president and prime minister of Pakistan during the visit. They will also visit programmes aiming to empower people and learn how communities are adapting to climate change.

Reportedly, their visit span over 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) from the capital to the historical city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in Pakistan's north and the rugged border regions to the west. They will land at the Pakistani Air Force Base Nur Khan, in Rawalpindi today.

In 2006, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, Charles and Camilla, visited Pakistan. Prince William's mother, the late Princess Diana, had also visited Pakistan in 1996. Previously, Queen Elizabeth II visited Pakistan in 1961 and 1997.
