Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have started to pay back the money that was spent in refurbishing their royal home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

The couple had earlier agreed to return roughly $3 million that they had received towards the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, which is located on the grounds of Queen Elizabeth’s Windsor Castle. Earlier in April, Harry and Meghan moved to Los Angeles with their son Archie, after stepping down from their official roles as senior members of the royal family.

According to media reports, the money for the renovation had come from the British taxpayers by way of the Sovereign Grant. Earlier this year in January, Harry and Meghan had expressed their wish to repay the funs of the Grant that was used for renovation following a discussion with the Queen and other senior members of the royal family amid their exit from royal life.

The couple and the Queen have drawn upon an arrangement, where the couple is allowed to pay back the amount installments. Reports state that the rate fixed is low and it will take more than a decade for Harry and Meghan to repay the entire amount.

The couple is reportedly also paying rent on the cottage, which will continue to be theirs to use when they are in the UK.  They have decided to split their time between America and UK post their exit from the royal family.

Harry and Meghan started living in Frogmore Cottage in April 2019. Before that, the couple was sharing space with Prince William and his family. The couple's son Archie was also born while the two were living in Frogmore.
