Veteran playback singer Vani Jairam passes away
Veteran playback singer Vani Jairam has passed away. She was 78. The National Award-winning singer was found dead at her residence in Chennai on Saturday (February 4). The exact cause of her death has not been revealed yet.In a career spanningmore than 50years,Vani Jairam sang over 10,000 songs in different languages, and including the very popular Hindi number 'Bole re papihara' from the film Guddi.
On January 25, Vani was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan — the third-highest civilian award of the country by the Government of India.

Vani has won three National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer.
Born onNovember 30, 1945 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Vani came from a family of classical musicians. She gave her first public performance at theAll India Radio, Madras when she was 8 years old. However, she started her career in the early 70s andrecorded her first Telugu song for the film 'Abhimanavanthulu'(1973).
She was living alone at a downtown apartment and had no children, said a PTI news agency report.
In her glorious career, she has sung songs in over one thousand Indian moviesin various languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu,and Kannada, amongothers.
Her husband, Jairam, passed away in 2018.
Soon after the news of her shocking death was confirmed, tributes started pouring in.
