Nicki Minaj freed after arrest at Amsterdam airport for possessing ‘soft drug’

Globally renowned singerNicki Minaj was released hours after getting arrested at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Saturday (May 25) forcarrying drugs.

The incident took place when she was gearing up to fly to Co-op Live arena in Manchester for a concert on her “Pink Friday 2 World Tour”, however, due to the arrest the concert where she was scheduled to perform was postponed.

The company said, “Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible."“We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused," it added.

The news of the arrest of the "Super Bass" rapper came to the fore when she made posts regarding it on her social media accounts.A police officer, in the posted video, can be heard telling the singer - "You are under arrest."

Dutch officials later said that she has been released and that “following consultation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect received a monetary fine and is now permitted to continue her journey."

Minaj recorded the incident on Instagram live video where the 41-year-old could be seen saying, "I’m not going in there. I need a lawyer present."

Regarding the concert, the officer in the video could be seen saying that they would "try to get [her] there" as soon as possible. "Oh, so I’m under arrest?" Minaj asked. As per her, officers also requested her to not film the video.

In a separate video, Minaj was seen inside a vehicle and was talking to a uniformed man. "Why didn’t you guys search it before they went on the plane?" she asked.

The Dutch police did not name Nicki Minajhowever affirmed that they apprehended a "41-year-old American woman" at the airport for "possession of soft drugs."

"Now they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls. Keep in mind they took my bags without consent. My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yea & the pilot wants me to take my ig post down," Minajwrote on X.

Notably, marijuana is legal in Amsterdam in quantities up to 5 grams, but harder drugs remain illegal.

This is not Minaj's first brush with legal issues. Two months ago, she and her husband, Kenneth Petty, were ordered to pay $500,000 to a German security guard over an alleged backstage beating in 2019. Petty, a convicted sex offender, has a history of legal troubles, including a 1995 attempted rape conviction and a subsequent manslaughter conviction. Minaj shares a child with Petty.
