The wait is finally over! The new trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King is here.
On Friday (Aug 9), Disney released the highly anticipated trailer at the D23 event in Anaheim, California at Walt Disney Studios.
Directed by Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins, the upcoming movie focuses on the early life of Lion King Mufasa and his best buddy Taka aka Scar.
Mufasa: The Lion King Trailer: The Origin Story of Simba and Scar
Released on Friday, the trailer of Mufasa: The Lion King narrates the story of Simba's father, Mufasa, his rise to power and how he met Scar.
Directed by Barry and written by Jeff Nathanson, the film is a prequel to Jon Favreau’s 2019 live-action film, which was a remake of Disney's 1994 animated classic.

The trailer takes us into the magnificent green world of Mufasa and Taka, and their joyous time together. The two-minute clip showed the first meeting of Mufasa, an orphan cub, and Prince Taka, the future king of the Pride Lands.
The clip showed the origin story of the two cubs and how they became inseparable friends, with Taka wanting Mufasa to be part of the royal circle. Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala, along with Timon and Pumbaa, are also part of the movie.
The new cast members include Aaron Pierre as young Mufasa, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as young Scar. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter will voice Nala andher daughter, Blue Ivy Carter is making her feature film debut. She will voice Kiara, the daughter of King Samba and Queen Nala.
Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani will reprise their roles as Simba, Pumbaa, and Timon, respectively.
New cast members include Lennie James as Taka’s father, Obasi; Anika Noni Rose as Mufasa’s mother, Afia; and Keith David as Mufasa’s father, Masego, Tiffany Boone as Sarabi; Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki; Preston Nyman as Zazu; Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros and Thandiwe Newton as Taka’s mother, Eshe.
The official synopsis reads:"Mufasa: The Lion Kingenlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka — the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny — their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe."
The 2019 movie, directed by Jon Favreau, was a huge box office hit. The movie earned a staggering $1.66 billion globally.
Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theatres on December20.
