Miley Cyrus named 'Disney Legend' at D23
The year 2024 is turning out to be a blessing for Miley Cyrus. In February, she received her first Grammy award and went viral with her "Flowers" song. And now, she has become the youngest person ever to be named a Disney Legend.
On Sunday, the 31-year-old received this prestigious honour during the D23 event in Anaheim, California. As she stood onstage, the gravity of the moment overwhelmed her and she broke into tears as the audience celebrated her contribution to the entertainment industry with a standing ovation.
While wiping her tears, Miley said, "I’m gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know. And what I want to say, is that legends get scared, too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day. It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try."

Miley also recalled the casting process of the Hannah Montana show and revealed, "In 2005, Disney was on a mission to rebuild the company. That’s why they hired Bob Iger, and me. I stand here still proud to have been ‘Hannah Montana'."
"This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality To quote the legend herself, 'This is the life',” she concluded her speech.
Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, had previously commended Cyrus in a press release, describing the Disney Legend title as the highest honour the company can bestow. He spoke about the extraordinary creative contributions of all the honourees, who also included stars like Angela Bassett, Harrison Ford, and John Williams.
Miley Cyrus first brought Hannah Montana to life in 2006. The show became a massive hit, running for four seasons until 2011.
