Shopaholic author Sophie Kinsella reveals rare type of brain cancer diagnosis

British writer Sophie Kinsella, the author of the popular book series ''Shopaholic'', has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Kinsella shared the news on her Instagram.
On April 17, Kinsella shared on Instagram that she was suffering from glioblastoma, a rare form of terminal cancer.
In the statement shared on her social media handles, the 54-year-old writer said that she was diagnosed with a deadly disease at the end of 2022, and currently she's receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Kinsella, whose real name is Madeleine Sophie Wickham, said, "At the end of 2022 I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain cancer.''

"I did not share this before because I wanted to make sure that my children were able to hear and process the news in privacy and adapt to our 'new normal. I have been under the care of the excellent team at University College Hospital in London and have had successful surgery and subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which is still ongoing."
Concluding her message, Sophie sent love to all those suffering from cancer and sharedgratitude towards her readers for their ''wonderful response'' to her recently released book ''The Burnout''. ''It has really buoyed me up, during a difficult time,'' she said.

Sophie is well-known for her eight-book ''Shopaholic'' series. The first two books of the series were adapted into the 2009 film Confessions of a Shopaholic, starring Isla Fisher.

What is Glioblastoma?
Glioblastoma is a rare form of cancerous tumour which develops in the brain from glial cells that provide support to neurons. It is a life-threatening disease.
The treatments for glioblastoma are surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
