Alia Bhatt to Simone Ashley: Celebs with Indian roots shine at Met Gala 2024

Fashion's biggest night, the Met Gala 2024, had celebrities from the world over walking in their designer best on the red carpet. Held on the first Monday of May every year, the Met Gala is a grand charity event that is attended by fashion designers, actors, singers, politicians and more. This year, stars rocked the event wearing interesting interpretations of the theme Garden Of Time.

India was represented at the gala by some of the biggest names in the entertainment business. From Alia Bhattto rising star Ambika Mod, here are all the Indians at the Met Gala this year.

Alia Bhatt

After making her debut at the Met Gala last year, Alia stunned in a custom-designed, mint green Sabyasachi sareethis year. Styled by well-known stylist, Anaita Shroff Adajania, Bhatt's sareewas studded with real gems and featured a 23-foot-long train in honour of the theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” She wore elaborate headpieces to complete the look.

Natasha Poonawalla

Many would recall the golden Sabyasachi saree that Natasha Poonawalla woreat the 2022 edition of the Gala. This year, Poonawala dressed in a custom Margiela designed by the fashion industry's favourite designer of the moment, John Galliano. The Indian heiress paired her look with sky-high platform Christian Louboutins.

Mona Patel

Fashion entrepreneur Mona Patel was easily one of the best dressed at this year's Met Gala. Patel made her debut at the Met Gala this year and made heads turn in an off-shoulder, body-hugging, Iris Van Herpen gown. It was inspired by fluttering butterflies in an ode to the dress code “The Garden of Time”. Her look featured Van Herpen's signature sculptural elements in a marbled fabric. The high point of the dress was the elaborate fluttering 3D butterflies on her sleeves.

Mindy Kaling

Actor, producer, and writer, Mindy Kaling showed up to the Met Gala wearing a sculpted nude couture gown by Gaurav Gupta this year that comprised a majestic structure cape with an elaborate train.

Ambika Mod

The One Day star Ambika Mod made her red carpet debut at the Met Gala in a monochrome black and white gown from Loewe.

Simone Ashley

The Bridgerton star arrived on the Met Gala red carpet in a cutout navy blue dress designed by Prabal Gurung.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee wore his creation as he debuted on the Met Gala red carpet. Sabyasachi wore a white and beige shirt and trousers with an elaborate embroidered floor-length jacket in cream. The designer completed the look with multiple neckpieces.

Isha Ambani

Business heiress Isha Ambani exuded the magic of floral elegance in a bespoke sareegown designed by couturier Rahul Mishra. Isha wore a sequined gold bustier and saree-styled skirt with heavy floral embellishment that also had a long trail.

Sudha Reddy

Indian billionaire, and philanthropist Sudha Reddy hit the Met Gala red carpet wearing a $10 million diamond necklace. Reddy chose a Ivory lace outfit by TarunTahiliani for the big day. The creation was crafted by 80 artisans using mother of pearls and silk threads.
