Tom Hiddleston does not consider Loki as a villain: Saw him as a broken soul

Tom Hiddleston does not consider Loki as a villain: Saw him as a broken soul

Tom Hiddleston as 'Loki'

There is perhaps no anti-hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has earned so much love over the years as Loki has. Actor Tom Hiddleston has played the iconic villain in multiple Marvel films and series and has revealed that he loved playing the character.

In May, Thor will complete 13 years. Loki was introduced in the film that was released in 2011. Since then Loki's fan base has just increased in the last decade with the character even getting a stand-alone web series.

Speaking to Deadline recently, Hiddleston said playing Loki was an emotional roller coaster. “I’ve loved playing Loki; it’s been 15 years, and it is the most magnificent and emotional roller coaster for the twists and turns. He has so much range and so much complexity, it never feels like I’m playing] the same thing.”

Hiddleston expressed gratitude for getting the role and said, “Playing Loki has changed the course of my whole life, no question.”

Also known as 'God Of Mischief', Loki was introduced as the anti-hero. But the character changed in season 2 of the web series where Loki learnt the value of self-sacrifice for the greater good.

Hiddleston highlighted the complexity of Loki and argued that he sees him as more than just a villain. The actor reflected on Loki’s character development and said, “I always saw him from the very first film as a broken soul with a shattered heart who felt like he didn’t belong, all that grief hardens into a grievance.”

This is not the first time that Hiddleston has spoken about the many layers of Loki’s character. Recently, he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live said, “I’m aware that he (Loki) made some interesting choices, which could be accumulated into a picture that looks like he’s a villain, and once upon a time, he was making some misguided choices. You know, trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to assemble to stop him, that was a bad day in the office. I’d like to think that 14 years later he’s making some slightly more generous, loving, and heroic choices.”

While the actor has spoken about the character and how much he has loved playing it on screen, he has always dodged the question on whether he would play it again in the near future. In the interview with Deadline and on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hiddleston diplomatically said that he has no idea about where the character goes from now on.
