Shakira says it's 'better not to have a husband', calls handling her two kids 'challenging'

Shakira has never shied away from talking about her life after breaking up with ex-partner Gerard Piqué. It's been more than two years since the Columbian singer announced her breakup with her footballer ex-boyfriend, Gerard Piqué Bernabeu. The former couple dated for 11 years and during their time together, they had welcomed two sons: Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Shakira, 47, talked about why she chose not to get married.
“In a way, it’s kind of good not to have a husband because that… I don’t know why it was dragging me down, man,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer said.

The singer added, “Now I feel like working. I feel like writing songs. I feel like making music. It’s a compulsive need of mine that I didn’t feel before,” said Shakira adding, “When life gives you lemons, you have to make lemonade.”
Reflecting on handling her two kids all alone without a husband, Shakira said it waskind of challenging for her.

The singer, who moved from Spain to the US, after ending her relationship with Piqué, explained, “It’s more challenging because now I’m in charge of these two kids, these two babies that depend on me so much. And I’m a single mother, I don’t have a husband at home to help out with anything.”
Sharing more about her personal life, Shakira in the interview discussed prioritising supporting Pique's career, over her.
"For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football," she told the outlet. "There was a lot of sacrifice for love."
Shakira will release her 12th studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don't Cry Anymore) on March 22. In thealbum, the singer has emphasised her transformation journey.
"The album will represent the transformation of pain into creativity, frustration into productivity, anger into passion, vulnerability into resilience," she said.
"There were so many pieces of my life that crumbled in front of my eyes and I had to rebuild myself in a way, picking up the bones from the floor and putting them all together. And the glue that kept it all together was music,"the singer added.
