Diljit Dosanjh says will not sing songs with alcohol in lyrics if govt bans sale: 'Don't mess with me'

Diljit Dosanjh

Diljit Dosanjh seems to havetaken the Telangana government notice to his heart. After taking a sly dig during his Hyderabad concert about the notice directing him not to sing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, and violence, the singer went on to discuss the topic at his other concert in Ahmedabad.

On Sunday (Nov. 17), the ''Lover'' singer took his Dil-Luminati Tour to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he criticised the Telanganagovernment's notice as he went on to commit that he would never sing a song that mentions alcohol if all the states in the country banit.

Saying that he will continue to sing the altered version of his songs, Diljit said, "There is good news that I have not gotten any notice yet. But there is one more piece of good news today also I won't sing such songs. Now ask why I won't sing those songs because Gujarat is a dry state.''

The actor said that he has written dozens of devotional songs. But no one is talking about that. Everyone is only talking about his song ''Patiala Peg''. The actor said that he was not calling anyone personally, asking if you had taken the drink or not.

He added, ''It's very easy for me to tweak the songs. I don't drink alcohol. It's very easy for me.''

Mentioning the alcohol promotions done by Bollywood stars, he said,''Bollywood ke jo kalakaar hai woh sharab ki advertisment karte hai, Diljit Dosanjh advertisement nahi karta. Aap mujhe chhedo mat. Main jahan jata hoon chup karke apna programme karta hoon, chala jata hoon. Aap kyu chedh rahe ho mujhe (Bollywood artists do alcohol advertisements, Diljit Dosanjh doesn't. Don't mess with me. Wherever I go, I do my performance silentlyand leave. Why are you messing with me)?"

Asking to start a movement to ban alcohol across the country, the singer said, "If all of India's states declare themselves as dry states, then Diljit Dosanjh won't ever sing songs on alcohol. I promise. Can that happen? It's a huge revenue. Everything closed down during COVID-19 except alcohol shops. What are you saying? You can't fool the youth.''

Diljit further added that he had a special offer as he challenged the government to announce a dry state for a single day whenever he performs.

For the unversed, the Telangana government issued a notice to the singer just hours before his Hyderabad concert, warning him not to sing songs that mention drugs and alcohol. He performed the concert by tweaking the lyrics of his songs.

Calling out the Telangana government's notice, the singer said during his Hyderabad concert that foreign artists are allowed to sing and do anything.

He said, "Koi bahar se kalakaar ayega woh jo marzi gaa ke jaaye, jo marzi kare koi tension nahi hai. Lekin apna kalakaar ghar aa raha hai, usme tainu pareshani, taang adani hai. Par main bhi ek baat bata doon, Dosanjh ka rab hai, main nahi chhodunga (If an artist comes from outside the country, they can sing anything, do anything, there are no worries. But when an Indian artist sings, then you have a problem; you have to interfere. But let me tell you, there is God. I won't let this go)."
