Remember Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing who disappeared from the public eye after a massive tax evasion scandal in her home country? Well, she’s back.
After staying away for almost a year, the actress is back in the spotlight as the 37-year-old made a dazzling appearance at a corporate gala in Beijing. She posed on the red carpet as she came dressed in a pink and black colour-blocked pantsuit.
The actress also posted photos on her Instagram from the event.
Last October, Chinese authorities fined Fan almost $130 million after ruling that she used so-called "yin-yang contracts" to conceal her real earnings in the movie industry and dodge millions of dollars in taxes. She avoided criminal charges as she was a first-time offender. She was earlier put under state control after the scandal came to light.
Fan said at the time she fully accepted the decision and apologized profusely to the public, party and government. In a statement then she said, "As a public figure, I should have abided by laws and regulations, and been a role model in the industry and society. I shouldn't have lost self-restraint or become lax in managing my companies, which led to the violation of laws in the name of economic interests."
"Without the favourable policies of the Communist Party and state, without the love of the people, there would have been no Fan Bingbing," she added.
Ever since Fan made a reappearance on Monday, there is news that she will soon start work on her next film with Hollywood stars Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong'o, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. The film will be anall-female spy thriller titled ‘355’ that will begin shooting this year. This is how Fan teased the news:
