Brad Pitt's Formula 1 film helmed by Joseph Kosinski has a release date

The much-anticipated Formula 1 film by Apple Original Films, starring Brad Pitt, has finally got a release date. The film will hit international theatres on June 25, 2025. In North America, it will open on June 27, two days after its international release.
What's the Film About?
The movie, yet to receive an official title, tells the fictional story of Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt. Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver whose career was cut short by a crash in the 1990s, makes an incredible return to the sport. At 60, Hayes joins the fictional APX GP team to mentor rookie driver Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris, known for his lead role in the crime drama series Snowfall. The narrative draws parallels to real-life F1 comebacks, echoing the likes of Fernando Alonso.
APX GP, the 11th team on the grid, races alongside the existing 10 F1 teams. While detailed plot points remain under wraps, the film has been partially shot during actual Grand Prix weekends, blending fiction with real-world racing.

Who is in the Film?
Leading the star-studded cast is Brad Pitt, with Damson Idris co-starring as his teammate. Javier Bardem, an Academy Award-winner for his role in No Country for Old Men, plays the team owner of APX GP. Kerry Condon, recently nominated for an Academy Award for The Banshees of Inisherin, and Tobias Menzies, known for his role in AppleTV+’s Manhunt, also play keyroles.
The ensemble cast also includes Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, Samson Kayo, and Callie Cooke.
Who is Directing It?
Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick, is at the helm of this high-octane film. Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is producing the film, adding authenticity and providing invaluable insights to the project.
Where and How Are They Filming It?
Filmed in collaboration with existing F1 teams, the FIA, and race promoters, the movie captures on-track footage during real F1 events.
Using a modified Formula 2 car designed by Mercedes’ technology division and Carlin, the film includes scenes shot at several Grand Prix locations throughout the 2023 season.
Notably, filming also took place at Silverstone and the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Both Pitt and Idris are driving the cars in some scenes, supported by professional drivers when necessary. The cars are equipped with state-of-the-art cameras, and the footage will be integrated with real F1 race footage.
