WATCH: Rishabh Pant clears the roof with monstrous 107m six, misses out on ton against New Zealand

Rishabh Pant had a bitter-sweet moment on Saturday (Oct 19) after he missed out on a certain hundred against New Zealand on Day 4 of the Bengaluru Test. Batting on Day 4 of the Test match, Rishabh was dismissed on 99 by William O'Rourke having earlier scored a mammoth six standing on one knee. The shot raised the eyebrows of the fans and commentators while non-striker KL Rahul adored it with a big smile.

With India in a spot of bother after the untimely dismissal of Virat Kohli on the last ball of Day 3, Pant and Sarafraz Khan led the foundation for India’s comeback into the contest. While Sarfaraz scored 150, Rishabh’s highlight reel was the mammoth 107-metresix against Tim Southeee on the third ball of the 87th over. The six also propelled him to 96 bringing him close to his latest Test ton. However, he was unfortunate to complete the ton and was dismissed for 99, becoming the second Indian wicketkeeper batter after MS Dhoni to record the unwanted feat.

He along with Sarfaraz helped India to a fighting comeback as they overcame the deposit of 356 runs from the first innings. While Rishabh was dismissed for 99, Sarfaraz also scored a well-deserved 150 while Virat (71) and Rohit Sharma (52) also played a crucial role for India.

At the time of writing, India were bowled out for 462 in 99.3 overs and gave New Zealand a target of 107 runs to win the Bengaluru Test. Considering India were 408/3 and in pole position to take a vital lead in the second innings it was a titanic collapse for the hosts. India lost seven wickets in a span of 62 runs in the final session which propelled New Zealand back into the match.
