
Chaos broke out on Wednesday (July 10) between former Indian cricketers and T20 World Cup winners Irfan Pathan and Yusuf after an on-field incident during the World Championships of Cricket (WCL) contest. The franchise-based cricket tournament consisting of former players saw the brothers in a heated exchange when Irfan got run out. The incident was the talking point for netizens with fans questioning the relationship between them.
In the contest between India Champions vs South Africa Champions, both brothers were in the middle batting for the former when the unfortunate run-out incident occurred. On the first ball of the 19th over, with the match already out of hands, Irfan Pathan hit a ball towards the deep-midwicket areaanticipating two runs.
However, Yusuf running towards the striker’s end for the first run was reluctant for the second run and stood in his crease. But, Irfan went infor the second run and left his crease withno way back once he was denied a run. This led to him getting run out at the non-striker’s end leading India Champions eighth wicket.
Playing in the franchise league in Birmingham, India Champions had yet another poor day at the office with Irfan’s wicket not making much difference. Chasing 211 to win against the South Africa Champions, India was restricted to 156/6 in their 20 overs and fell short of the target by 54 runs.
Yusuf Pathan was the top scorer with an unbeaten 54-run knock while brother Irfan contributed to 35 runs before getting out. The pair stitched a partnership of 56 runs for the sixth wicket while India Champions were 77/5 at one stage.
So far in the tournament, India Champions have lost three matches on a trot having earlier won their opening two matches. The Indian team also lost to Pakistan by 68 runs on the weekend which came as a big setback for the side.
