'For a billion of us,' India skipper Rohit Sharma shares emotional message after 2024 T20 World Cup win

India skipper Rohit Sharma has shared a heartfelt message on social media platform after leading India to their 2024 T20 World Cup final win. This was India's second T20 WC title with the first one being in inaugural edition in 2007.

"This picture epitomises how I’m feeling right now. So many words but can’t find the right ones to express what yesterday meant to me but I will, and I will share them, but right now I’m basking in a dream come true for a billion of us," wrote Rohit on his official social media handle X alongside a picture of his. After the win, Rohit announced retirement from T20Is. He retired as highest run scorer in T20Is with 4,231 runs to go with five hundreds as well - also the most in the format for a batter.

Rohit played his best innings in the World Cup against Australia, hitting 92 off 41 in the Super 8 match. He was especially severe to Mitchell Starc, hitting him for 29 runs in one over.

Rohit innings was seen by fans as the payback for India's loss in ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia.

India are also now only the third team to have two or more T20 titles. Apart from the 2024 edition, India had won the inaugural T20 World Cup back in 2007 as well.

India had set South Africa 177-run target to win the 2024 T20 World Cup. India won the toss and elected to bat first in Barbados and scored 176/7 in 20 overs.

As for South Africa, they were ahead most of the time and needed 30 runs in last five overs with Heinrich Klaasen and Miller on the crease.

The chase derailed after Pandya dismissed Klaasen in 17th over and from thereon India came out as eventual winners, holding SA at 169/8.
