India could be handed major concern ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia as reports have suggested captain Rohit Sharma could be out of the Perth Test. According to a media report, Rohit could be out from the opening Test match in Perth, startingon November 22, due to personal reasons. India will play Australia in a five-match Test series, havingwon the last two series Down Under.
"There isn't any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
"In case, the personal issue is sorted before the start of the series, he might play all five Tests. We will get to know more in the coming days," he said.
The tour will have a huge impetus as India and Australia search for vital World Test Championship (WTC) points. India sit top of the table while Australia occupy second spot which will see both sides in the driver’s seat.
The Indian team has been victorious in the last two visits to Australia and also won the Boxing Day Test in 2020. Rohit Sharma’s men will look to repeat the heroics as they look to take a giant step towards the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s.
