Bangladesh unrest: SHOCKING! Mashrafe Mortaza's house set on fire
Former Bangladesh captain and all-rounder Mashrafe Mortaza's house, in Narail, was set on fire by angry protesters amid the ongoing chaos in the country. On Monday (Aug 5), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country in the aftermath of violent student protests over a government jobs quota scheme. Mortaza, who is an MP with the ruling Awami League party, bore the brunt of protestors for his silence on the alleged "massacres and mass arrests of students" in Bangladesh.
Following Hasina's resignation, the Army chief mentioned that the military would help form an interim government to run the country. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh PM arrived in India to seek shelter and is reportedly expected to leave for the UK after negotiating a refuge.
Talking about Mortaza, imagesshowed that his house was vandalized and set ablaze by agitators. With him being a well-respected figure in the country, the protestors vent out their frustration on him due to his silence as the country is in unrest with the social crisis deepening with each passing day.

The 40-year-old Mortaza led Bangladesh in 117 games across different formats. During his career, he accounted for 390 international wickets and amassed 2,955 runs in 36 Tests, 220 ODIs, and 54 T20Is. Under his captaincy, the Bangla Tigers beat India, New Zealand and South Africa at home and also reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 ODI World Cup.
Post-retirement, Mortaza entered politics in 2018, joining the Hasina-led Awami League. He won a seat as an MP from the Narail-2 constituency soon after but currently is facing a lot of flak amid the struggles of the ruling party and the unrest in the country.
