With captain Rohit Sharma's splendid double-century, India easily managed to clinch the second ODI match by a margin of 141 runs at Mohali on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka, who was chasing a humongous 393 target, could all score 251 runs as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Sri Lanka had a dismal start to their chase as they lost both the openers Upul Tharanga and Danushka Gunathilaka at the score of 30.
Angelo Mathews was the lone fighter, who scored 111 runs off 122 balls which included nine fours and two sixes, as no other Lankan player gave him the required support he needed in the middle.
For India, Yuzvendra Chahal returned figures of 3/60 while paceman Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2/43 in his 10 overs.
With this win, Rohit Sharma’s side levelled the three-match series with 1-1 for now, with the third and final decider ODI to take place at Visakhapatnam this coming Sunday.
A host of records were broken at Mohali today that saw Rohit reaching his 16th ODI hundred en route to a double hundred.
The right-handed batsman's last double hundred also came against Sri Lanka while the first one was recorded against Australia.
