The benchmark BSE Sensex surged 154 points in early trade today buoyed by high capital inflows by domestic investors.

NSE Nifty was up 36.60 points at 9,830.75 points as brokers told PTI sentiment was upbeat due to buying by domestic institutional investors (DIIs).

The markets did not react to recent retail inflation figures which jumped over two per cent in July.

The fact that Asian markets had picked up as US-North tensions ebbed over the weekend also influenced the markets.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.45 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei gained 0.02 per cent in their early trade.
