The Sensex gained 330.45 points Thursday to close at 34,413.16.

The Nifty also jumped 100.15 points to close at 10,576.85.

The stock markets have taken a hammering in recent days -- the Sensex fell for for seven consecutive sessions -- Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced a 10% long-term capital gains tax on the sale of shares.

Jaitley's raising of the fiscal deficit target to 3.3% from the earlier 3% added to the markets nosediving.

Thursday was the first day the Sensex gained rather than having dropped points at the closing bell.
