Sensex ends 70 points lower, Nifty at 12,060

Domestic Stock Markets indices Sensex and Nifty on Monday turned volatile and traded lower, tracking global equities.

Earlier in the day, Sensex hit a new record high of 41,185.03 points.

At 9:17 am, the Sensex was up 117.03 points, or 0.29%, at 41,126.74. Nifty too was trading higher by 35.80 points to 12,122.50.

The NSE Nifty 50 Index settled 0.27% lower at 12,053.95, while the S&P BSE Sensex index closed down 0.17% at 40,938.72.

Shares of Reliance Industries weakened 0.75%, while ITC fell almost 2%.

The Nifty Metal index inched 1.4% lower and was the worst-performing sector.

IT stocks were among the few gainers, with the Nifty IT index closing nearly 1% higher.
