Tesla unveils render of upcoming Semi Factory to build electric trucks

Tesla recently shared a visual of the upcoming ‘Semi Factory,’ meant to produce the electric Semi near Gigafactory Texas in Nevada. The Tesla Semi program has experienced a delay even after Tesla officially produced the Tesla Semi vehicle. First introduced in 2017, the Semi was expected to be launched in 2020 but this was a little early as mass production started only in late 2022. After that, the volume of production has not been very high.

By October 2023, Tesla has manufactured about 70 Semis that are primarily used in-house and by Pepsi, the company’s main customer. In January 2023, Tesla revealed its intentions to ramp up production of the Semi through increasing the size of Gigafactory Nevada. However, there has been limited follow up on the progress since these reports were made earlier this year.

At the beginning of the year, they were successful in starting the construction of the new factory site. Tesla has stated that the factory may be ready by next year, and the scaling up of production for the Semi may occur by the end of 2025.

The head of the Tesla Semi program Dan Priestley recently provided some insights into the site in question along with a picture of the proposed factory. The construction photo indicates that works are already in progress where construction trucks are found close to the foundation anchors and this photo reveals the large size of the factory.

A visual representation of the final plant envisioned by Tesla shows that it is a rather large structure. There is not too much specific information available about the plant as Tesla has planned this plant to manufacture up to 50,000 Semis per year.
