<p>US special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/us-envoy-returns-after-taliban-afghan-talks-scuttled-212670">Zalmay Khalilzad will be in Delhi </a>in the next few weeks. This will be his second&nbsp;visit to India this year. He was in India in early January when he met external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.</p>

<p>The State Department in a release said,"Zalmay Khalilzad will travel to Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, and the United Kingdom from April 21st to May 11th, as part of the overall effort to facilitate a political settlement that ends the conflict in Afghanistan."</p>

<p>Adding further, the release said, in London, Moscow, Islamabad, and New Delhi, he will work to build international support for the Afghan peace process to help ensure that any peace settlement reached will be sustainable."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Foriegn secretary Vijay Gokhale had met the US envoy in March in Washington and&nbsp;had appraised India's view on the Afghan peace process.</p>

<p>India which backs&nbsp;"Afghan-owned, Afghan-led and Afghan-controlled"&nbsp;was clearly conveyed to US officials. Gokhale had also conveyed&nbsp;that New Delhi would like continuation of current political structure which has been&nbsp;arrived at after 18 years.</p>

<p>India has been engaging with regional countries - Iran,Russia, China, central Asian countries -&nbsp;regarding the Afghan peace process.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India last year had participated at an "unofficial level" at Moscow format talks by sending its former ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha and former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan TCA Raghavan.</p>

<p>St Anthony's Shrine, a Catholic Church in Kochcikade, Colombo, was one of the churches where a blast was reported on Sunday along with an explosion at St Sebastian's gothic-style Catholic church in Katuwapitiya, north of Colombo and an explosion that hit an evangelical church in Batticaloa in eastern province.</p>

<p>Later in the day, the Sri Lankan police reported the seventh explosion, the fourth at a hotel near the national zoo, which is in an area near the capital Colombo, Reuters reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The latest and the eighth in the series of Easter Day explosions occurred in the suburb of Orugodawatta in the north of the capital city Colombo.&nbsp;</p>

South Asia unites in Sri Lanka's hour of grief

3 Indians killed in Sri Lanka serial blasts: Ministry of External Affairs

<p><strong>Sidharto Suryodipuro</strong>: Learning, it's a two-way street. We need to have a conversation between our election commissions. It will be a good idea to start that. From the Indonesian side, we can learn a lot from our Indian friends about the EVM because behind India's voting machine there is a long history. It's a long process of gaining political consensus for the adoption of the EVMs and the process has not ended. Now you have paper trail added. Indonesia can benefit from the Indian experience on this.</p>

<p><strong>WION</strong>: What are the similarities between the Indian and the Indonesian elections?</p>

<p><strong>Suryodipuro</strong>: Similarities are in terms of diversity and scale of both the countries. India has a larger population than Indonesia. Indonesia had 810,000 polling booths. My guess is, in every round of elections in India there will be about as many numbers of polling booths. Both have very diverse and complex processes. It shows both our democracies are robust, people have the confidence in democracy and voting process and another thing - our election cycle is the same (previously in 2014 and now), and this helps in strengthening the bilateral relations because it creates stability in relations for the next 5 years.</p>

<p><strong>WION</strong>: How big is the process of elections in Indonesia?</p>

<p><strong>Suryodipuro</strong>: On April 17, a total of 193 million Indonesians went to the polling booth. They are electing the President and the Vice president. They will be voting for 575 members of the lower house. This is out of candidates of 16 political parties. There will be local voting at the provincial level. So in all, 20,000 seats will be up for votes.</p>

<p><strong>WION</strong>: How did Indonesians in India vote?</p>

<p><strong>Suryodipuro</strong>: There are 2 million Indonesians living overseas. They are covered by 133 Indonesian missions worldwide. So in India, we have votings in the embassy in New Delhi and the Consulate in Mumbai. In all, we have 198 Indonesian citizens come to the embassy and vote and 91 that voted by mail. We are going through the counting. These are ballot papers and not electronic voting machines, they are being counted manually.</p>

It shows both our democracies are robust, people have the confidence in democracy and voting process and another thing - our election cycle is the same (previously in 2014 and now), and this helps in strengthening the bilateral relations because it creates stability in relations for the next 5 years. WION: How big is the process of elections in Indonesia? Suryodipuro: On April 17, a total of 193 million Indonesians went to the polling booth. They are electing the President and the Vice president. They will be voting for 575 members of the lower house. This is out of candidates of 16 political parties. There will be local voting at the provincial level. So in all, 20,000 seats will be up for votes. WION: How did Indonesians in India vote? Suryodipuro: There are 2 million Indonesians living overseas. They are covered by 133 Indonesian missions worldwide. So in India, we have votings in the embassy in New Delhi and the Consulate in Mumbai. In all, we have 198 Indonesian citizens come to the embassy and vote and 91 that voted by mail. We are going through the counting. These are ballot papers and not electronic voting machines, they are being counted manually.

<p>The second technical level talks on the Kartarpur corridor took place on Tuesday at the 'zero point' at Dera Baba Nanak border. Engineers and other officials were present during the meeting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India has offered to make a flyover from Darshni Sthal, from where the holy site could be seen from the Indian side, till the 'zero point' where India-Pak corridors meet.</p>

<p>India had proposed Tuesday's meeting to address the outstanding technical issues. Currently, the project is being implemented on the ground with speed.</p>

<p>The first meet took place last month on March 19. During that meeting, which included engineers and surveyors, the survey of the site was done and the alignment of the corridor was also discussed.</p>

<p>The first India-Pak officials' meet took place on March 14. India had then proposed that the corridor should be open to Indian citizens and Indian diaspora with 5,000 people allowed every day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Islamabad wasn't keen on the Indian proposal saying they can only allow 700 people, that too only Indian citizens, on designated days with a paid permit.</p>

<p>India has already clarified that the talks do not mean the resumption of a dialogue process. The corridor has been a long-standing demand of Indian citizens of Sikh faith. Pakistan agreed to the demand after India announced last year in November that it will build the corridor.</p>

<p>Tina, who has taken Islamic name Ayesha, will record her statement in front of a magistrate soon.</p>

<p>The case has many parallels with Hamid Nehal and Uzma Ahmed. Hamid was repatriated last year after 6 years in a Pakistani jail. Hamid Nehal Ansari went to Pakistan via Afghanistan after befriending a Pakistani girl whom he fell in love with. He went to Pakistan's Kohat on a fake passport in 2012 and was arrested there by security officials.</p>

<p>Uzma Ahmed, an Indian who was brought back in 2017 had a similar story. She fell in love with a Pakistan's Tahir Ali in Malaysia and went with him to Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district. Later in Buner district of the province, she was asked to marry him. She managed to escape and reached the Indian High Commission and with the help of officials there came back to India.</p>

<p>First on January 1 on the occasion of New Year and on February 27 to in which President Putin expressed his deep condolences on the Pulwama terrorist attack. A second informal summit between India and Russia is expected to happen this year. The first happened last year in Sochi, Russia.</p>

<p>In 2018, Russian President and PM Narendra Modi met twice, first for the famous informal summit in Sochi, then for the annual summit in Delhi in which S400 deal was signed.</p>

<p>The development comes days after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) awarded The Zayed Medal, the highest civilian award of the country.</p>
