"It's good to be back," assistant commissioner Snehasish Das told AFP while standing at a busy intersection directing traffic.

"As we feel secure now, we are back on duty."

Student-led protests against Hasina's government had been largely peaceful until police attempted to violently disperse them.

Around 450 of the country's 600 police stations were targeted in arson and vandalism attacks over the past month, according to the national police union.

Some began reopening late last week under guard by the army, an institution held in higher esteem for largely refusing to participate in the crackdown.

In the police's absence, the students who led the protests that toppled Hasina volunteered to restore law and order after looting and reprisal attacks in the hours after her departure.

Das said there was "no tension" between police and the students who had been performing their duties.

"Students have done a tremendous job in the past few days," he added. "Our thanks to them."

The volunteers, for their part, said they were relieved to yield back their responsibilities.

"It's too difficult for us to manage the vehicles," Chanu Abdullah, 27, told AFP. "I'm really thankful the police came back."

<h3>‘Heinous attacks’</h3>

Yunus's de facto cabinet now administering the country said it had noted with "grave concern" some attacks on Hindus and other minorities.

In its first official statement on Sunday night, the cabinet said it would work to "find ways to resolve such heinous attacks".

Bangladeshi Hindus account for around eight percent of the country's 170 million people and have regularly been the targets of violence during periods of upheaval.

Hundreds have arrived on India's border since last week, asking to cross.

The leadership of Jamaat, Bangladesh's largest Islamist party, said it would meet with representatives of the Hindu community and other minority leaders later Monday in a bid to ease tensions.

Hasina, 76, fled by helicopter to neighbouring India a week ago as protesters flooded Dhaka's streets in a dramatic end to her iron-fisted tenure.

Trump takes credit for LA 2028 Olympics, slams Obama: 'Got the job done'

Three engineers have been suspended by India's Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for their alleged involvement in illegalities related to the renovation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence.

Chief engineer, Pradeep Kumar Parmar and superintending engineer, Abhishek Raj and Ashok Kumar Rajdev were suspended and&nbsp;said to be instrumental in the construction of Kejriwal’s bungalow.&nbsp;

The three engineers along with five others, according to CPWD violated rules and escalated costs&nbsp;"in the name of superior modifications on the instructions of CM Kejriwal."

These engineers allegedly colluded with the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) minister and green-lit the construction of Kejriwal's new bungalow by citing an urgency clause, even though there was no real urgency, according to the vigilance department.&nbsp;

The construction happened at a time when the finance department had been issuing orders on budget cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Out of the five other engineers, three have already been suspended on the directions of the LG, while a recommendation has been made to CPWD to initiate action against one engineer, who has now retired,” the officials said, as per India TV.

“Since the two engineers – Parmar and Abhishek Raj - belong to the CPWD and are currently posted outside Delhi, the Vigilance Department, on the directions of LG, VK Saxena, had requested the Director General (CPWD) to suspend and initiate major penalty against Pradeep Kumar Parmar and Abhishek Raj. While Parmar is currently posted in Guwahati, Abhishek Raj is posted in Kharagpur,” they added.

According to the vigilance department, crores of rupees were spent on high-end features&nbsp;including&nbsp;decorative work, premium flooring, high-quality wooden doors, automatic sliding glass doors, sheer curtains with fabric curtain tracks and motors, wool carpets, artistic mouldings, defogger glass in toilets and bathrooms, as well as sauna baths and jacuzzis.

The matter is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

While Parmar is currently posted in Guwahati, Abhishek Raj is posted in Kharagpur,” they added. A fisherman in the United Kingdom&nbsp;reeled in a rare Lego shark&nbsp;27 years after it went missing from a container of shipping cargo in the 1990s.

The toy is one of the five&nbsp;million pieces lost&nbsp;in&nbsp;the "Great Lego Spill of 1997," when a freak wave hit a cargo ship called the Tokio Express off the coast of Cornwall. The pieces from the spill&nbsp;still wash&nbsp;up on shore&nbsp;today.

The 35-year-old fisherman,&nbsp;Richard West, found the lost shark 20 miles south of Penzance on Tuesday (Aug 6). He later&nbsp;contacted the project Lego Lost at Sea, whose founder Tracey Williams confirmed the piece to be the first-ever reported shark from the spill.

West said, "It's way better than any fish I've caught all week. I'm so happy about it."

The fisherman&nbsp;said he pulled the object from on top of his fishing nets while aboard the Defiant FY848 on a mission to catch monkfish and sole.

"I could tell straight away what it was because I had Lego sharks in the pirate ship set when I was little. I loved them," West told the BBC. "It's been 25 years since I've seen that face."

The plastic object, called Sharky by West, is worn out by time submerged for over two decades. It is also missing the dorsal fin. The Lego models remain&nbsp;under the sea as&nbsp;they waste away into smaller and smaller pieces before&nbsp;finally turning into microplastics.

Williams said the sharks were in sets released in 1997 such as Shark Cage Cove, Shark Attack, and Deep Sea Bounty. The official Lego inventory stated that there were 22,200 dark grey Lego sharks and 29,600 light grey sharks inside the missing container – a total of 51,800 sharks.

"Richard and I now have joint custody of the shark," Williams added.

The UK home secretary also&nbsp;said that the government wants to bring down migration by implementing an approach that is linked towards policy on skills, leading to a fairer and more coherent approach towards the labour market.&nbsp;
