A federal judge on Thursday (Jun 6) ordered Donald Trump's former top advisor Steve Bannon to report to jail by July 1 to serve his four-month sentence for criminal contempt of Congress conviction.

Bannon, in July 2022, was convicted of contempt for defying a subpoena to testify before the congressional panel that probed the Jan 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

Dubbed as one of the masterminds behind Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, Bannon in Oct 2022 was convicted to four months in prison.

However, he has remained free since then while appealing his conviction.

After the judge's order, the 70-year-old while addressing the media outside the Washington courthouse said, "There's nothing that can shut me up and nothing that will shut me up."

"There's not a prison built or a jail built that will ever shut me up," he said.

"We're going to win on November 5th in an amazing landslide," he added while referring to the date of US presidential elections.

For the first seven months during Trump's tenure, Bannon served as Chief Strategist in the White House. He reportedly left due to conflicts with other senior staffers.

He was charged with wire fraud and money laundering in the year 2020 for taking millions of dollars given by donors for the construction of a border wall with Mexico for his own personal use.

While all the others involved in the scam were found guilty, Trump issued a blanket pardon to Bannon before leaving office in January 2021. This led to the dismissal of the charges against him.

Ex-Trump adviser Peter Navarro sentenced to 4 months for contempt of Congress

Another top Trump advisor who was also convicted of contempt of Congress was Peter Navarro who began serving his four-month sentence in March.

Navarro ignored a subpoena from a US House committee that was probing alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

In September, Navarro was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena. The subpoena required the submission of documents and testimony to a House of Representatives panel led by Democrats.

China's Yuntai Waterfall, a major tourist attraction in the country's north-central Henan province, grabbed headlines after a video posted by a hiker on social media showed how a pipe was feeding the famous falls.

A Douyin user, which is the Chinese version of the short video platform TikTok, posted a clipping that revealed how a large pipe was burrowed at the top of Yuntai Falls.

The video, which reportedly has been shared 48,000 times, triggered a row on the internet, which ultimately pushed the park officials to release a statement that cited seasonal factors as the reason for a "small enhancement during the dry season."

The move was meant to "enrich the visiting experience" and make the "trip worthwhile" for those "who have travelled a long way," operators wrote on their Weibo social media account.

Nepal government has recalled ambassadors from 11 countries, including those serving in India and the US and appointed under the Nepali Congress' quota, three months after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' terminated his alliance with the party and joined hands with KP Sharma Oli.

Despite strong reservations from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the government on Thursday recalled these ambassadors, including Nepal's envoy to India Shankar Sharma, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported.

This comes ahead of Prime Minister Prachanda's likely visit to New Delhi on Sunday to witness Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony. Such a move sends a very undiplomatic message, multiple foreign ministry officials told the newspaper.

Foreign Minister Shrestha had reportedly been opposing the proposal to recall ambassadors appointed in the quota for the Nepali Congress and other parties, but Prime Minister Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman Oli unilaterally decided to recall the ambassadors, a minister told the paper.

Foreign Minister Shrestha reportedly told both Dahal and Oli not to recall all 11 envoys because the performance of some of them was good, the minister said. Dahal and Oli are learnt to have pressured Shrestha to accept the move which was later decided by the Cabinet.

The decision was supposed to come from the foreign ministry but the Cabinet had endorsed it without much discussion. Shrestha opposed the decision in the Cabinet meeting too, sources said.

The recalled ambassadors are Sharma (India), Sridhar Khatri (USA), Gyan Chandra Acharya (United Kingdom) and Jyoti Pyakurel Bhandari (South Korea). They were appointed in the quotas allotted to the Nepali Congress when the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba headed the government in 2021. Sharma, Acharya and Khatri were recommended ambassadors in October, 2021.

Other ambassadors whose terms were cut short are Naresh Bikram Dhakal (Qatar), Nawaraj Subedi (Saudi Arabia), Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal (Spain), Ram Swartha Ray Yadav (Denmark), Kanta Rizal (Israel), Dilliraj Poudel (Malaysia) and Salin Nepal (Portugal).

Dhakal, Rizal and Nepal were also appointed in the Congress quota before the party left the Dahal-led government in March. Subedi and Yadav were recommended by the Janata Samajbadi Party. Dhakal was appointed in the quota for the Prachanda-led CPN (Maoist Centre) but her influence in the party was weak, sources claimed. Poudel was appointed in the quota for the CPN (Unified Socialist) but he failed to build a cordial relationship with Minister for Labour D P Aryal.

The envoys have been given three to four weeks to return, according to a minister.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Delhi state convener Gopal Rai on Thursday (Jun 6) clarified that his party's alliance with Congress was only for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and that it will contest the Delhi assembly polls alone.

"This is clear from the very first day that the INDIA alliance was formed for Lok Sabha elections. As far as Vidhan Sabha is concerned, no alliance has been formed. AAP will fight elections with its full strength," Rai said.

He further said that the opposition parties had come together as the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the general elections and that there was no alliance for assembly polls that are scheduled to take place early next year.

“It is clear from the beginning that the INDIA alliance was formed for the Lok Sabha elections. We fought Lok Sabha elections together but in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections, there is no alliance. We will fight the Vidhan Sabha elections together with the people of Delhi,” he said.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which found itself in hot waters in the past few months after supremo Kejriwal was arrested in an excise policy case, allied with Congress as part of the INDIA bloc to contest the 18th Lok Sabha polls.

While AAP fielded candidates for four constituencies out of seven, Congress contested from the remaining three seats.

Both parties drew a blank in the national capital as BJP emerged victorious in all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies.

Despite agreeing on a collaboration for Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, Punjab, and Gujarat, Congress and AAP did not form an alliance in Punjab and both parties went solo.

Congress secured seven out of 13 seats in the north Indian state while AAP despite being the ruling party only managed to get three.

SpaceX's giant prototype rocket Starship on Thursday lifted off on its fourth test flight in an attempt to reach outer space and then back to Earth surviving the hot re-entry through the planet's atmosphere.

Notably, at the time of its previous attempt, the rocket broke apart during this crucial phase.

Starship, which is also the most powerful liftoff system ever built, embarked on its journey from Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas at 7:50 am (1250 GMT).

"The payload for these flight tests is data," SpaceX posted on X. "Building upon what we achieved during Starship's third flight test, our primary goal today is to get through the extreme heat of reentry."

Starship, in its third test launch, burned up during its return trip to Earth. After a hiatus of seven months following its inaugural flight last April, SpaceX swiftly followed up with two more test flights in November and one in March.

Departing from Boca Chica, Texas, and traversing the Gulf of Mexico, the vessel's third flight completed a circumnavigation of our planet.

Unfortunately, communication was lost during the final phase of the test as it descended into the atmosphere.

The rocket this time is covered with several small black tiles that are specifically designed to safeguard the spacecraft from extensive heat encountered while making a re-entry into the earth's atmosphere at hypersonic speed.

"The main goal of this mission is to get much deeper into the atmosphere during reentry, ideally through max heating," Musk, CEO of SpaceX, wrote on social media on Saturday (Jun 1).

The company, led by entrepreneur and business magnate Elon Musk has been pushing the boundaries of space travel with its Starship project. Musk is aiming to revolutionise missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

A Bengaluru court on Thursday (Jun 6) extended former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna's police custody till June 10 in connection with the sexual assault case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the allegations against Revanna earlier had sought his custody in the first FIR registered against him in Holenarasipura.

The development came as the JD(S) leader's six-day remand ended on June 6.

Revanna was arrested in the early hours of May 31 upon his landing at the Bengaluru airport from Germany.

After a woman who working at the JD(S) leader's house levelled allegations of sexual harassment against Revanna in April, he fled the country and stayed in Germany for almost a month.

Revanna loses Lok Sabha polls

Amid the controversy, Revanna lost the Lok Sabha polls to Congress' Shreyas M Patel by a margin of 42,649 votes.

Late last month, Revanna released a self-made video where he said that he would appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 31 and cooperate in the probe linked to the alleged obscene video case.

Dismissing allegations that he fled the country on a diplomatic passport, he said that he was out on a "pre-planned" trip and that there was no case filed against him when Karnataka went into polling for the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

In the video, he also claimed that a political conspiracy was orchestrated against him as he was making significant progress in the field of politics.

"Namaskara, firstly I apologise to my parents, my grandfather, Kumaraswamy and my party workers and people of the state. I didn't inform where I am. When elections were held on (April) 26th, there was no case on me and no SIT was formed then, my foreign trip was pre-planned. That's why I came to foreign. I came to know about it through YouTube and the news. Then SIT notice was also served to me. Then through my X account I asked for seven days time to appear," Revanna said in the self-made video released on May 27.

TikTok has again grabbed headlines after reports of cyberattacks targeting several brands and celebrity accounts, including news network CNN surfaced.

Following this, the short video platform on Tuesday (June 4) released a statement saying that the company was taking measures to safeguard the public accounts from the attack.

"We have taken measures to stop this attack and prevent it from happening in the future," the spokesperson said as per news agency AFP reports.

"We're working directly with affected account owners to restore access if needed."

TikTok said that the number of accounts compromised by the cyberattack which was carried out by "malicious actors" was "very small" and their team was working to help the users restore access to their respective accounts if required.

"We have been collaborating closely with CNN to restore account access and implement enhanced security measures to safeguard their account moving forward," the spokesperson said.

As per the news agency Reuters, reality TV star Paris Hilton's account was also targeted in the cyberattack, however, it wasn't compromised.

TikTok, ByteDance challenge potential US ban in court

TikTok and its parent firm ByteDance had on May 7 filed a legal challenge against the US targeting a bill signed by President Joe Biden that would push the app to either face a ban in the United States or to be sold.

The development came almost two weeks after Biden passed a law giving the popular short-form video hosting service an ultimatum of 270 days to find a non-Chinese buyer or face a ban in the country.

TikTok argues that the bill signed by the US president was unconstitutional.

"For the first time in history, Congress has enacted a law that subjects a single, named speech platform to a permanent, nationwide ban, and bars every American from participating in a unique online community with more than one billion people worldwide," said the suit by TikTok and ByteDance.

The short-video sharing platform also alleges that the move violates the First Amendment, charging that "Congress has made a law curtailing massive amounts of protected speech."

It further stated that the divestiture demanded for the short video app for it to be functional in the country is "simply not possible".
