More than 63 teams are participating, representing 34 units. 28 states and eight union territories are participating,"&nbsp;said Waseem Raja, joint director, Youth Services, Kashmir.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is the first time Kashmir is hosting indoor volleyball competitions which means we have improved infrastructure-wise. We are all ready to host national and international games."</p>

<p>Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 67th National School Games and said that the country is witnessing a resurgence in sports and a robust new sports culture. He also said that eminent sports persons are emerging from small villages &amp; towns, and they have achieved excellence in international sporting events with their spectacular performances.</p>

<p>''The atmosphere here is nice and exactly like any other sports event. We like it here and everything has been done nicely. All arrangements have been done upto the mark. All sports activities should be held here. We appeal to the government that Kashmir should be made a permanent venue due to its good weather for many other sports activities," said Satvir Singh of&nbsp;Punjab.&nbsp;</p>

<p>J&amp;K has ushered into a new sporting era as the government chalks development plans while building adequate sports infrastructure. It is also introducing sports as an integral part of the educational curriculum, increasing access&nbsp;to experts and providing opportunities to talents across the UT. By holding such sporting events in the Kashmir valley, athletes feel they are getting great exposure to play with athletes from various states.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“66 teams from across India are here which will give us a great exposure. It’s a great positive for the Kashmiri athletes. Even to watch these athletes play is so inspiring for us. It’s a big platform for us to showcase our talent,” says Jasim, a local athlete.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A migrant worker from northern Uttar Pradesh was shot dead by terrorists in Nowpora village of southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday (Oct 30), making it the third terror attack in the valley in the last 24 hours.</p>

<p>The deceased, identified as Mukesh Singh, was shot in the Rajpora area around 12.45 pm (local time) on Monday.</p>

<p>The series of attacks forced the police to heighten security across the Kashmir Valley, even as a joint combing operation with paramilitary force CRPF is ongoing in the Pulwama district to weed out the terrorists involved in the attack.</p>

<p>''The enemy wants to unleash violence in the valley. The incidents that have taken place today and yesterday reflects their frustration. As they are unable to make grounds, they are making sure that peace doesn’t return to the valley,” Dilbagh Singh, Director General, Jammu Kashmir Police, said.</p>

<p>“We are working hard to completely eradicate violence in the valley. We have already managed to find some major clues with regard to yesterday's (Oct 29) attack. If a poor labourer is killed, I don't think either God or police will forgive the perpetrators of this attack,'' Singh added.</p>

<p>Monday’s attack comes a day after a Jammu and Kashmir Police's inspector was shot and injured by terrorists.</p>

<p>The victim, Masroor Ahmad, and was shot at from a point-blank range. As per the police sources, Ahmad was posted in District Police Line at Eidgah area of Srinagar.</p>

<p>''Terrorists fired upon and injured Inspector Masroor Ahmad near Eidgah, Srinagar. He was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigation reveals that a pistol was used in this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off, and a case has been registered, '' Jammu and Kashmir Police said on microblogging site X.</p>

<p>To further strengthen the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Kashmir Valley, a group of over 300 specially trained commandos of the Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been deployed across 40 Police Stations in the Valley. According to Jammu and Kashmir police, to root out the terrorism in the valley, these commandos will be deployed for the anti-terror operations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Special Operation Group Commando also known as Peace and Stability teams will be deployed in 43 police stations in J&amp;K and also be provided with the latest gadgets and other facilities. In the first phase, the capacity building covered 21 police stations while 22 more police stations were given new bulletproof vehicles with the motive of completely finishing the terror networks in the Valley.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We have started Operation Capacity Building and under this, we have covered 21 police stations in the first phase that have been strengthened and provided with the latest gadgets and other facilities to deal with terrorism. These special teams have been given special training to manage peace at their respective Police Station. They can handle all the new high-tech weaponry. 22 more police stations will be covered in the second phase now under the OCB to ensure remaining terrorism is eliminated from the UT. They will help the locals to feel secure and make sure the valley is terror-free,'' said Dilbagh Singh, Director General of J&amp;K Police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jammu and Kashmir Police DGP also said that in his tenure of 5 years, there have been Zero law &amp; order incidents with Zero Civilian Casualty. He also said that the graph of terrorism has come down drastically and is breathing its last.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The five-year report card of J&amp;K suggests that there has been zero collateral damage, zero law and order incident and zero civilian causality. The graph of terrorism that brought a bad name to J&amp;K is also coming down to zero,'' said DGP Dilbagh Singh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Singh also said that without public support Jammu and Kashmir Police could never have achieved all the goals. He further stated that J&amp;K police are people-friendly police and always work for the safety of people. &nbsp;</p>

Jammu and Kashmir Police launch Operation Capacity Building to root out terrorism

<p>Two terrorists have been killed during an infiltration bid near the Line of Control in Machil Sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. The Indian army earlier said that a joint operation of Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the Indian Army is in progress after they received input from the intelligence agencies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indian army said an infiltration bid has been foiled by the security forces near the LoC as Jammu and Kashmir's Police wrote in a post on X social media platform that two terrorists have been killed in the ongoing encounter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Based on specific information provided by Kupwara Police, an encounter has started in Machhal sector in which two #terrorists have been killed so far," said Jammu and Kashmir Police adding, "Operation underway. Further details shall follow."&nbsp;</p>

<p>''All the cities across the world have their own film festivals, like the Cannes Film Festival, Toronto, Shanghai and Melbourne. We would have never known the city of Cannes if there was no film festival there. Film festivals give a new image to a city. It's seen as a sign of progression, and it's also seen as an art-welcoming place. The Jammu and Kashmir image needed to be changed and that's why we have started this festival here. I am extremely overwhelmed by the response from the people. All the people from the fraternity are here,'' said Rakesh Roshan Bhat, Festival Director, TIFFS.</p>

<p>Bollywood film director B Subhash who has directed blockbuster films like <em>Dance Dance</em> and <em>Disco Dancer </em>was the chief guest for the festival. He said that Kashmir has always been a favourite destination for filmmakers and the government needs to promote it further.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''When I was told that they are hosting a festival in Srinagar, I was very happy. It will benefit the valley a lot. All the films during the 60's,70's and 80's were shot in the Valley. Government should provide subsidies so that more film makers come here. I am seeing a great response. Last time I was here was in 84 and now Kashmir has become modern, and I will definitely promote it once again among the film makers,'' said B Subhash.</p>

<p>The local film makers and filmgoers have been coming in huge numbers to watch the films and interact with the film makers. They said that such events could inspire the younger generation towards the film world.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''In the last couple of years, we have been seeing a lot of theatre and film events. It's a great thing and it will also send across a message among the young generation. The youth get inspired by such events. And we would want more and more of such events in the Valley, '' said Shafiq Ahmad, Filmmaker.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For the first time in the last three decades, recruitment of the local youth in terror outfits has hit an&nbsp;all-time low. According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, only 10 local youths joined the terror ranks in the year 2023, and six of them have already been killed.&nbsp;</p>

Six of just 10 local terror recruits in J&K in 2023 killed

<p>Director General of Jammu Kashmir Police Dilbagh Singh said on Saturday (October 21) that terrorism in the Union Territory was taking its last breaths. His positive assertion came on Police Commemoration Day. The DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police will make sure that the menace of terrorism is eliminated completely. He added that the dream of a fully peaceful Kashmir valley was finally coming true.</p>

<p>"More than 1600 security personnel have sacrificed their lives in last three decades fighting terrorism in the Valley. Pakistan has been pushing and promoting terror here and the sacrifice of our forces has led to the results and that's why terrorism is breathing its last in the valley. Jammu and Kashmir will soon be terror-free, and we salute each and every martyr who laid down their lives for the country and peace," said Dilbagh Singh, DGP JK Police.</p>

<p>While speaking about terrror launchpads across the border in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir and infiltration bids, the DGP said that many camps have become non-functional while many are still active in Sialkot at the international border and also near LoC across the Gurez Sector. <p>As tourism in the Kashmir valley reached new peaks this year, the government has added one more experience for the locals and tourists. The Indian Railways kickstarted an all-weather glass-ceiling AC train called Vistadome Coach in the valley. This will be a unique experience for the visitors to get a view of Kashmir's landscape through a glass coach.</p>

<p>To witness the breathtaking views of the valley's landscape, the Vistadome will run along a 90 kilometres track from Banihal in South Kashmir to Budgam in central Kashmir.</p>

<p>Vistadome has been fitted with double-wide reclining seats that can rotate 360 degrees and will provide the passengers with a panoramic view of the Kashmir landscape.</p>

<p>The J&amp;K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday (Oct 19) inaugurated the Vistadome coach in the Kashmir valley from Srinagar's railway station.</p>

<p>''Vistadome Coach is a state-of-the-art train with advanced features of entertainment and sitting. Local travellers and tourists travelling in Vistadome Coach will enjoy the modern-day travel experience in the valley and feel the natural beauty right from Budgam, Qazigund, and Banihal very closely. Vistadome coach offers 360-degree views of the train journey with huge glass windows. The new train will start from Budgam to Banihal while time is not far when the train will connect Kashmir with Kanyakumari,'' said Sinha.</p>

<p>The government said that post the G-20 working group meeting, which was held in the valley, the number of foreign tourist arrivals has gone up by 350 percent.</p>

<p>According to the government, last year 18.8 million tourist arrivals took place. This year. 17 million&nbsp;tourists have visited J&amp;K till September 30. The government expects the number to cross 22.5 million in 2023.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vistadome has glass ceilings, automatic sliding doors, luggage racks, LED, and a GPS-enabled information system.</p>

<p>The officials with Indian Railways said that the coaches are fitted with air conditioning for the upcoming&nbsp;harsh winters in the Kashmir valley. The train will run all through the year and a lot of people are waiting for the valley to be covered with snow to get the experience of Switzerland in Kashmir.</p>

<p>“One of the weddings took place at the famous Dal Lake. I think this will take the tourism potential of Kashmir Valley to the next level. This can happen in all the divisions of Jammu as well as Kashmir, '' he added.</p>

<p>The Department of Tourism has opened properties like the Royal Spring Golf Course in Srinagar for people to host their weddings. The department is also helping the wedding planners with all that is required to make these weddings memorable experiences for the guests.</p>

<p>According to government data, in the past two years, around 150 destination weddings were hosted in Kashmir Valley.</p>

<p>''Post Covid, the destination weddings have increased by a huge margin. Instead of abroad, people are exploring Kashmir Valley. In June, we had a big wedding which was one of the biggest and grandest weddings of the decade. We had around 800-1000 guests at that wedding. J-K tourism helped us a lot. It benefits a lot of people related to the tourism industry like handicraft people, shikaras, and taxi drivers,” said Amit Wanchoo, an event planner.</p>

<p>The weather in the Kashmir Valley also plays an important role, especially during the summer months, making it an ideal destination for outdoor weddings. The mild temperatures and clear skies create a comfortable environment for outdoor ceremonies and festivities.</p>

Higher reaches of Kashmir and Ladakh receive fresh snowfall; valley witnesses drop in temperature

<p>President of India Droupadi Murmu is on a two-day visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. On Wednesday (Oct 11) she attended the 20th convocation of the University of Kashmir on its Srinagar campus.</p>

<p>The President said during her address that the country is proud of the responsible youth of Kashmir. She urged students at University of Kashmir to actively participate in social service as they complete their studies.</p>

<p>“By participating in social work, the youth could bring social change and set an example. I am happy to note that alumni have brought glory to this university by serving the country. The motto of the University of Kashmir which means ‘Let us move from darkness to light'.&nbsp;The more our youth move towards the light of education and towards the light of peace, the more our country will progress," said the President Murmu.</p>

<p>President Murmu said that when the young follow the path of development and disciopline, their country and the society they are part of move towards progress and prosperity.</p>

<p>The President was pleased to note that girl students made up 55 per cent of the total number of students studying at the university. She opined that this presented the picture of our country and its destiny.</p>

<p>“The 'Nari Shakti Vandan Act' 2023 would prove to be a revolutionary step towards women-led development in our country. The sustainable development is a part of Kashmir's heritage. There will be food only as long as there are forests, and it is the responsibility of all of us to preserve this paradise on earth. Kashmir University should be alert in preserving the Himalayan ecosystem. I am happy to note that work related to glaciology, biodiversity conservation and the Himalayan Ice-Core Laboratory is at different stages,” said President Murmu.</p>

<p>She said that it was the responsibility of the academic world to find way to leverage organically grown knowledge systems in today's circumstances.</p>

<p>“It was heartening for me to know that out of total students conferred with gold medals today, more than 66% are our daughters. Accomplishment of our daughters, their self-confidence, courage and the ability to create new records in education and various other fields is a matter of great pride for entire union territory. It is a reflection of a brighter future for the nation and a step towards women-led development,” said Manoj Sinha, LG Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

Indian President visits Jammu and Kashmir, attends convocation ceremony

A joint operation by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched on the intervening night of 09/10 October 23 after security forces had a tip off about the presence of terrorists in the area.&nbsp;</div>

<div dir="ltr">Two terrorists were neutralised during the operations. The slain terrorists have been identified as Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq, both from LET. It has also been learned from police sources that Jazim Farooq alias Abrar was involved in the killing of Late Mr Sanjay Sharma a Kashmiri Pandit in Pulwama on 26 February this year,'' said Defence PRO, Indian Army.&nbsp;</div>
