Yemen: 27 die in clashes as troops target Al-Qaeda
Close to ten thousand people have been killed in Yemen since 2015
As many as eight soldiers and 19 suspected members of Al-Qaeda were killed in Yemen today in an offensive launched by the army against key extremist outposts.
United Arab Emirates-trained special forces along with Yemen's government launched an offensive "Al-Faisal" against Al-Qaeda cells over the weekend.
The army had captured Mesini Valley west of Mukalla city -- a central site for Al-Qaeda in Yemen from 2015 to 2016. The army and regional military allies seized control of the port city later on.
Close to ten thousand people have been killed in Yemen since 2015.
The Saudi-led coalition along with the government have been in fights with Iran-backed Huthi rebels.
Meanwhile, radical groups like the Islamic State flourished in the chaos, regularly launching attacks on the government and military targets.
