West Asia crisis: 55 rockets fired toward Israel's Safed area, sparking fires

Around 55 rockets were firedtoward Safed and the surrounding areas on Saturday (Sept 14) morning, Israeli media reported citing the military. There were no reports of injuries in these strikes.

A report by The Times of Israel said that in the first barrage,around 20 rockets were fired and in the second, some 35. Many of these rockets were interceptedwhile others fell in open areas.

Rocket strikes spark fires

Many of these rockets sparked fires in Safed and the surrounding areas, the report added.A short while later, the Israeli military jets hitthe rocket launchers in south Lebanon, the report further said.

Earlier on Saturday, rocket sirens were heard in Safedand multiple surrounding communities, warning of incoming fire from Lebanon.

Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah group has been trading near-daily cross-border fire with Israeli forces since Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year, sparking war in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli strike in Lebanese village killsthree

The rocket strikes in Safed came two days after the Lebanese health ministry said that three people were killedin an Israeli strike in the country's south on Thursday.

The health ministry said an "Israeli enemy strike" hit the village of Kfarjouz near Nabatieh, around 10 kilometres (six miles) from the border with Israel. The strike killed "three people, among them a child, and wounded three others", the ministry said, without providing further details.

A source close to Hezbollah told the news agency AFPthat one of the dead was "a fighter in Hezbollah" and the two others were "civilians."
