Virgin Atlantic flight makes emergency landing in Edinburgh after nose gear malfunction

In the latest edition of plane mishaps becoming a regular thing, a Virgin Atlantic aircraft triggered an emergency response as it touched down at Edinburgh Airport.

According to reports, the aircraft, which took off from Orlando, Florida, needed assistance landing when its front nose gear burst.

Numerous fire engines and ambulances were waiting at the scene when it arrived at the Edinburgh Airport. The staff was concerned that the impact of the landing might break the front wheel through the plane's metal case.

Around 11:20 am, the aircraft touched down at Edinburgh Airport, causing delays for other planes departing from the Scottish capital due to the emergency situation.

There were delays in takeoffs between 10:00 am and 11:00 am, which affected many passengers.

Regarding the airport's emergency response to the issue, a Virgin Atlantic representative said, "As a precautionary measure we have requested engineers meet our flight the VS226 travelling from Orlando to Edinburgh upon landing due to low nose gear tyre pressure.The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and our passengers and crew have since disembarked the aircraft as normal.”

"Our teams were made aware of an issue with the inbound Virgin Atlantic flight and as a precaution stood up response procedures as is standard practice. The flight has landed and was met by emergency response vehicles. It has since exited the runway and operations have resumed," a spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport added.

More than 3000 people worldwide monitored the plane's landing, making it the most tracked aircraft for a while on the well-known travel tracking website Flightradar.
