
Tsunami warnings were issued after a magnitude-7.6 earthquake struck off the coast of New Caledonia in the South Pacific on Wednesday.
The tremor hit at about 3.18 pm local time at a depth of 10 kilometres southeast of Loyalty Islands off New Caledonia's east coast, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Tsunami warnings have been issued for New Caledonia and Vanuatu for waves from 1-3m and Fiji for waves up to 1m, as well as waves smaller than 0.3m for outlying areas.
Several aftershocks above magnitude-5.6 were recorded.
