Trump told Netanyahu to end Gaza war ‘before he returns to office’: Report

US Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has asked Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza before he ‘returns to office,’ according to a report by the Times of Israel.

The Israeli news outlet cited two sources in its report, who said the message was conveyed by Trump in July when the duo met at the former president’s Florida Mar-a-Lago resort.

While Trump had previously admitted that he asked Netanyahu to win the war quickly, now it has been revealed that he had attached a deadline to it—January 20.

During his campaign trail, Trump has largely shied away from talking about the ongoing war in West Asia but has signalled his full support to Israel’s military operations against Iran and the proxies backed by it.

He even argued in favour of Israel attacking the nuclear sites in the Shi’ite country.

"That's the thing you wanna hit," Trump spoke during a rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

On the other hand, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has labelled Trump ‘dangerous’ for West Asia. "I believe that Donald Trump is dangerous," Harris said during a CNN town hall last week.

"I believe that when you have a president of the United States who has said to his generals who worked for him because he is Commander in Chief — these conversations, I assume, many of them took place in the Oval Office — if the president of the United States, the Commander in Chief, is saying to his generals, in essence, 'Why can't you be more like Hitler's generals?' Anderson, come on," she added.

Times of Israel reported earlier this month, quoting two sources, that Israeli officials were worried over Trump’s repeated calls for ending the war in Gaza. The officials fear that if Netanyahu fails to adhere to Trump’s deadline, it may even lead to some clash between the two leaders.

“There are internal political constraints to ending the war quickly,” one source told the Israeli outlet.
